CATS EYE GEMS
Cat Eye's are seen when light reflects through a curved surface off of parallel fibers [as in the case of Rutile crystals in Quartz, or Asbestos in Agate (Tigereye)], or hollow tubes [as in Aquamarine and Tourmaline]. The gem known simply as "Cats Eye" is Crysoberyl, the eyes in which tend to be both subtle [fine tubes], and bright.
The lore I like says they're good for "keeping an eye out".
